Can I invite you to consider completing the UCLA Loneliness Course, Version 3? It consists of 20 questions and you receive the results online without giving your email address. It is standardized and normed tool that can be really helpful to get candid with yourself about loneliness. I’m going to suggest that you take it today, record the result, be mindful of connection and inspire you to make small changes that are “do-able”. Then retake it in a month and see if there is even a small shift!
Carolyn just completed a brand new mini course: “Guard to Guide: Transform your loneliness from guard dog to guide dog”. It looks at the “pro-symptom” position concept that we looked at week 3. It will eventually be available as a mini course for $23.00 but the introductory price is $7.00 (or more–it’s a “pay what you want” course) If you want to spend more time with the concepts of week 3, check it out!
To learn more about self-compassion and understand your ability to practice self compassion through an assessment, check out Kristin Neff’s website, self-compassion.org
To learn more about the psychological distancing feeling of shame, take a look at Dr. Brené Brown’s TED talk, Listening to Shame.
The Loneliness Course is a 5 module course that gives lots of scientific and practical input. It is designed to be a companion on the road from loneliness to connection–lots of videos, extra resources, handouts and opportunity to comment on the material.

I love this image of loneliness. This is just to remind you that you are not alone in feeling alone.

The Anxious Generation
After more than a decade of stability or improvement, the mental health of adolescents plunged in the early 2010s. Rates of depression, anxiety, self-harm, and suicide rose sharply, more than doubling on many measures. Why?
In The Anxious Generation, social psychologist Jonathan Haidt lays out the facts about the epidemic of teen mental illness that hit many countries at the same time.

Lost Connections
There was a mystery haunting award-winning investigative journalist Johann Hari. He was thirty-nine years old, and almost every year he had been alive, depression and anxiety had increased in Britain and across the Western world. Why?
